I am a student in Musics of the World and I am making an double gourd drum as part of my semester project. From what I have found, it is a very spiritual process when making these instruments, but I have not been able to find any significant historical data nor any examples of how it is played or what it sounds like. I have found other drums and/or chants, but none using the ipu heke. The one internet site I found required a membership in order to access it. Any suggestions?

This site has some information -- and I'm sure they will be glad to answer any specific questions you have:
http://www.thegourdconnection.com/about.html

Also use google.com to search for "ipu heke history"...it gave me over 10 pages of links on that topic.
