| Aloha! I was wondering if there was anyone out there who knew anything, had pictures of, knew where to find pictures of, and especially music by Haunani Kahalewai. She was my great aunt and I was trying to put together a little something for my grandma, Haunani's sister, and the rest of my family. If anyone has any ideas or could kokua in any way, it would mean so much! Mahalo Nui! |

| If you live on Oahu, you will find a complete biography and picture of Haunani in our Hall of Fame exhibit. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame several years ago for her contributions to Hawaiian music. As for pictures, please e-mail me for a referral on who may know who has some. She is recorded on a number of CDs (re-digitized from LPs) available now. |

| Because Haunani was an active member of the wonderful cast of the "Hawai`i Calls" shows, you might want to contact Flip McDiarmid at Hula Records (they own the rights to all the old recordings). I'm sure he'd be glad to assist you with historical information -- and perhaps even copies of old publicity photos? http://www.hawaiian-music.com/ Haunani was included on many, many recordings. To find the CDs and cassettes, just insert her first or last name in the second search engine on this page: http://www.mele.com/search.shtml Best of luck on your project! -- auntie maria HAWAIIAN MUSIC ISLAND http://www.mele.com |

Nui, Haunani considered my family her mainland family. I am one of Bob and Sharon Hosier's children that loved her dearly. We have stayed in contact with Haunani's close friend, Lynn Glickman, who we may be able to get photo's from. My Mom says she has some photo's that she would love to share with you. Is your grandma Haumaya by any chance? I remember Dutchy and Uncle Armpits visiting us in San Mateo, and the wonderful luau's we would have in our backyard. Please contact me and I will get you as much information as possible. Sandy ==================== |

Aloha! Many years ago, my parents Jean and Jake Jacobsen had a deli next door to Haunani and Lynn's Hawaiian Shop in San Mateo, CA. My brother Jon and I loved going to 'Hawaii' every time we visited their shop. Haunani and Lynn were always very generous and shared their love for life with us. My mom still has Haunani's autographed records and has told me that they are mine when I want them. I know by this time you probably have what you need since your request was 5 years ago. It made my heart happy to read about your great aunt! |

Hi Elva. I ran into Eryn Strickland yesterday and she told me you had moved to Oregon. I hope all is well with you. Eryn tells me that most of your children have graduated from High school, gee time flies. How did you end up in Oregon, aren't you cold there? Burr the thought makes me shiver. While I was doing a search for you I saw that your brother Herman passed away. What a young man he was. Is Herman senior still living in Sonoma? Warmest Regards, Carolyn |

I have many fond memories of Haunani and her doting on me as a young rascal (kolohe). My father was Phil Ingalls and recorded an album with Haunani. I remember her fondly and would enjoy any pictures or recordings that anyone might care to share. Mahalo, Phil Ingalls Jr. |

Hello, I lived in Hawaii, Lahaina, in the late 1960's. Taught at Kamehameha III, near the Banyan tree. I have been collecting traditional Hawaiian music ever since. For my 65th Birthday, I'm looking to find a CD of one of my very favorite singers, Haunani. In searching for a CD I came across your messages. It's a special joy to read them and know she was loved by so many. She brought such beauty to life through her voice, her music. I still cry every time I hear her sing "Mom." I have that one album of hers. Aloha Nui Loa, Barbara |

Unfortunately, none of Haunani's solo recordings have been released on CD. But there are two solo tracks by her on the CD entitled "A Musical Memento of the Islands". |

Actually, I was just looking on ebay the other day and a Japanese company HAS issued a CD with out 20 of her solo tracks on it, mostly from her Decca recordings. It was rather pricey, as most Japanese CD pressings are, so I didn't bid on it, but keep checking ebay or perhaps GEMM.com, or Musicstack.com which both have 1,000s of sellers of used LPs & CDs. It may show up there. |
