For "Ke Aloha", found this in the book by Toriyama entitled MUSICAL IMAGES OF HAWAII
http://www.mele.com/v3/info/1062.htm
Composed by Lei Collins and Maddy Lam.
"...Ke Aloha sheds more light on the romantic hue of aloha".

For "He Aloha Ku`uipo", found this in the liner notes of Del Beazley's NIGHT AND DAY album:
http://www.mele.com/v3/info/19.htm
Composed by Mary Kawena Pukui, Madeline Lam
(sorry, no explanation of its inspiration...)

Kealoha - Violet Lei Collins wrote the lyrics; the music was composed by Maddy Lam

Ke Aloha Ku‘uipo, is Kahauanu Lake's favorite song. The Kahauanu Lake Trio recorded it beautifully. Again, Maddy Lam composed it; Kawena Pukui wrote the words.

Where can I find a CD with music.
My friend lost her tape of Ke Aloha and I would like to re-store it for her. She is a dear friend and this would be a great gift for mothers day.
Please advise.
Thank you.

In 1977 I was in Hawaii and heard an album of Hawaiian songs sung by a Hawaiian children's chorus, and the collection included a really wonderful rendition of Ke Aloha Ku'u Ipo. I have often wished I had taken a copy of that album home with me, just for that one song. Does anyone know the name of the children's chorus, and/or the name of the album, and/or whether that album is findable nowadays? A haunting, unforgettable song, sung beautifully by those Hawaiian children. Please help if you can.

Does anyone know an approximate date for Ke Aloha? I can't seem to find a date anywhere. I love the song . . . just wish I could put it in context! Mahalo!

Can anyone tell me something about the history and any story behind this beautiful song? When was it written and was it written about anyone in particular? Any other information about this song, Lei Collins and Maddie Lam would also be interesting to me.

I heard a story that my grandma (Lei Collins) composed this song on the way to a wedding, and that the song was a present for the bride and groom. The background of the two who were to be wed is that the bride was much (maybe 20 years) older than the groom, but grandma wrote that age doesn't matter and that love is still possible. (note: back in those days a wedding of these such people would be even more of a shock than if it happened today)

Aloha,

My kumu told me that Ke Aloha was written as a anniversary present for a a couple. It was for their 10th anniversary. When the two got married, no one thought that they would last. The Bride was much older than the groom. However, the hidden meaning of the song is very sexual.
