If you haven't already done so, you might want to contact her grand-daughter, the singer Amy Hanaiali`i Gilliom: amyg@lava.net |

Your great grandmother taught me hula in the early 1970's in CA. We drove from Orange County, Ca to Hollywood to dance for her. I would like to know more about Napua's hula lineage/geneaology. I am currently dancing in a Halau in CA. and would like to add that information to my hula background. |

Keala, I am interested in the dancers of the "Golden Age". In Johnny Noble's book (Miller Music) Hawaiian Hulas there is a photo of a trio. Tootley Notley, Lily Padaken, and Jennie Woo(d). Am I right in assuming this is your great-grandmother? Aloha, David. |

| I met a wonderful sweet elderly Lady in Oahu who introduced her self to us as Auntie Napua. Every night she would come to the Waikiki Sheraton show at the pool. My friend had met her there on previous trips and we understood that she came religiously each and every night to "be close to (her)my "Bill". Such a sweet woman she was that her spirit captured my heart and made a lasting memory of Hawaii for me that includes her. On my last visit there last summer we went to the show hoping to see sweet Auntie Napua again but she wasn't there. I'm just wondering if this is the same Napua... I would sure love to know what became of this woman who is a part of my Hawaiian Memories. |

Does anyone have any information about Johnny Woodd? I believe he was the nephew of Napua and he died sometime around the 1970s in a scuba diving accident. I would appreciate any information. Feel free to email me. Mahalo. |

I recently searched my father's name without the middle initial and it came up with everyone you are talking about. It appears that my step-niece(?) may be Amy Gilliom. It would appear my father and her grandmother were married or at least involved at some time during the 30's-40's. I live in Central Pennsylvania in the states with my family. |

I took hula from Napua ( Jennie Napua Woodd),in Studio City, California in the early 70's, and wonder if the lady who posted on 4/5 was one of our class members. Some of us from Napua's class were chosen to be in the summer luau shows at the Huntington Sheraton Hotel in Pasadena, Ca. I was in the show for 3 summers, from '71-'73. Napua choreographed all the dance numbers in the show, and was the best hula teacher I ever had. Sometime in '73 (I think), she married Bill. She quit teaching hula and I believe they moved to Hawaii. Sometime later she moved to Maui where I heard that she lived until she passed away. |

I am the Daughter of the Famous "Danny Kuaana" who worked for years with Napua at The Hotel Lexington in New York City. They were with Lani McIntire at this time. Napua was my Hula Teacher and I was one of her First Students when she opened her Studio in Hollywood California. Napua was The Best TEacher around in those days. She was married to Sam Koki the "Steel" player in Lani's Band. |

I danced for Napua along with my Aunt, my sister and my cousin. I was quite young and don't remember anyone else being in our classs. I beleive that we had private lessons. We later went on to dance with Napua's son George Jr. We performed at The Reef in Long Beach, CA under George and in Monterey Park. I am interested in obtaining pictures if they are available. I am still dancing hula today. |

Dearest Keala, Who are your parents? I live in California and spent many days playing with Napua's grandsons Timmy and Eric while Mom would visit with Uncle Lloyd and Auntie Mimi. Your last name is Harris, I knew Kim Harris and I believe his father was George Harris, and Kim was Timmy and Erics cousin. Your Greatgrandmother has a very respected name her in California and Amy and Eric Gilliom keep that name growing. Contact one of them and you will find all the geneology your heart desires. Best wishes to you Keala, ~Hoku |

I recently saw a piece of sheet music for the song Hoi Mai. It features a very nice picture of Napua in a Ti leaf skirt. If I am not mistaken she was the Napua on the Harry Owens 1958 TV show now on youtube. Make sure you type in 1958 because there are 2 Owens videos there. The studio show is the one, and if you don't mind all the non authentic stuff, about half way through Napua does a really nice chant-like song. |

Lloyd Gilliom, one of Jennie's husbands, was also my father. My brother, Tim, posted a comment earlier. I live in Harrisburg, PA with my husband. We have two daughters, Jen and Megan. I have been in contact with my half-brother, Lloyd and his wife, Mimi. I would love to hear from any of my newly-discovered relatives! An aside - hi to Aunt Mary in Indiana! I would love to hear from you, too! |

If I'm not mistaken, your greatgrand mother taught my mom to dance in the 70's. She still up to this day speaks of Napua. and we are wondering how we can get ahold of a song/record she gave my mom. my mother taught us with this spacific song. |
