Aloha,

This is truly a very fascinating site... how enjoyable!!!

I've been a devote "follower" of Hawaiian music for a number of years now. Throughout the years I've come to now some of these "honorees" not through their personage, but through their work -- and what fine work indeed. In and through my timeless studies I've come to appreciate their works and contribution to Hawaiian music and the Hawaiian music community.

I'm happy to know that the Advisory Board for the selection of "Who should be honored?" is made up of Na Hoku Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Inductees. These are qualified individuals and I hope they will always consider someone who has done nothing less than perpetuate Hawaiian music.

Last year there was quite an overwhelming cry-out among the general public regarding the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts' obvious snob to Kekuhi Kanahele. Even I was shocked and in disbelief. But the more I studied Kekuhi's work, the more emphatic I became of the more popular vote. Perhaps Kekuhi needed to put in more time. This year she joined the ranks of Mr. Kawai Cockett (Male Vocalist of the Year) as the Female Vocalist of the Year. I'm so happy, in fact, belated, that the Academy will not change their views of keeping Hawaiian music, Hawaiian.

I've come to notice that the more stronger proponents of Hawaiian music will shine more at the Hoku Awards and I think the Academy should be applauded for that -- sends a message, don't you think?

Mahalo
